How do you know when it’s time to see a fertility specialist?

You may want to consider fertility specialist if:

  • You have been trying to conceive for 6 months (or more). Women over 37 do not need to wait 6 months before seeing a fertility specialist.
  • You have any medical history of irregular or painful periods, pelvic pain, PCOSendometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), repeated miscarriages, or if your partner has a low sperm count or a history of testicular, prostate, or sexual problems.
  • You need to start chemotherapy for cancer or autoimmune disease and you would like to preserve your fertility potential. Read more
  • You are 30-35 year old woman who would like to delay childbearing and you would like to freeze your eggs. Read more

Early assessment and intervention by a fertility specialist can greatly increase your chances to conceive.

To become a patient at our clinic you will require a referral from your healthcare provider. Download a Referral form here.

What to expect?

Preparing for the Consultation

Patients will be asked to enter our Patient Portal to fill in a medical history questionnaire. The patient portal allows you to fill in the information at the convenience of your home without rushing. The more details you will provide the better we can personalize the course of treatment. Another great benefit of using the patient portal is that it allows the specialist to review your medical history questionnaire prior to your visit to the clinic. That way unnecessary tests are avoided and your consult time is effectively used for your assessment and to address your questions and concerns.

At the Consultation:

The first steps of your journey begin with finding out the cause or causes of your fertility problems. To complete your fertility assessment the specialist will order tests. The tests include:

Hormone/Blood testing – We will test for hormones that help eggs and sperm develop, hormones that give clues about the , of your eggs, and helps us time your ovulation for maximal efficiency.
Semen tests – We will use state-of-the-art technology to examine sperm concentration, motility, movement, shape, and sperm antibodies that could be harming sperm
Fertility potential analysis – We will conduct a thorough serological and genetic analysis that will help us determine your current and future fertility potential.
Imaging – such as pelvic ultrasound or a sonohysterogram to make sure the uterus and tubes are normal,

The tests results along with your medical history and preferences will allow the doctor to personalize the treatment. You may be recommended to undergo fertility treatments, otherwise known as assisted reproduction. This may include cycle monitoring, controlled ovarian stimulation, Intrauterine insemination (IUI) or IVF.

Your fertility journey is unique and we are here to guide you through. There are no ‘one fits all’ solution in reproductive medicine and your voice matter. We encourage you to actively participate. Your opinion, along with the medical team is used to create a personalized treatment plan that will help you achieve a successful pregnancy while being cost-effective.
