Zika is a virus spread by mosquitos. It causes an infection that is typically mild and lasts only a few days. Symptoms of Zika virus can include fever, headache, conjunctivitis (pink eye), skin rash and joint and muscle pain. List of countries at risk of Zika virus infection.
Zika can be passed from a pregnant woman to her fetus. Infection during pregnancy can cause certain birth defects. Pregnant women and women planning a pregnancy should take special precautions to avoid infection with the Zika virus.
